Student Edge and YouthInsight have developed the inaugural Top 100 Youth Brands Report of Australia, in collaboration with Growth Tank and Youth Marketing Australia.

This report, based on an extensive piece of research that involved a thorough filtering process, will set the benchmark for all brands in years to come.

It was presented at the YMA Conference in St Kilda, Melbourne on Thursday 23 May, where YouTube was crowned the #1 most impactful brand among Australian youths.

YouTube was also #1 in the Social Media and Apps category. Other category winners included Netflix (Entertainment), Google (Digital and Technology), Commonwealth Bank (Finance), McDonald’s (Fast Food & Restaurants), Dove (Health & Beauty) and Woolworths (Retail & Online Retail).

To get to this comprehensive Top 100, more than 2,000 14 to 24-year-olds were surveyed on the brands that most impact their lives, beginning with a long list of more than 1,000 brands.

Our respondents were each presented with around 100 randomised brands and were asked to assign either ‘love’, ‘like’, ‘no feeling’, ‘dislike’ and ‘hate’ to each of them.

From there, we were able to rank brands by their categories, as well as create an overall Top 100.
